MEET DR. ODOM-WESLEY

Odom is a name you know. It stands for trust and service.

 

Elzie D. Odom was elected to the Arlington City Council in 1990 and became Arlington's first African-American Mayor in 1997. Scholarships and an athletic center bear his name. Ruby Odom, a former City of Arlington First Lady, has logged many decades of volunteer service in the community, at her church and Arlington Memorial Hospital.

 

Dr. Barbara Odom-Wesley, their daughter, carries forth their service legacy as a member of the the Arlington City Council. 

"I learned early in life that service is the price you pay for the ground you walk on," she says.

She has been "paying her way," serving in various professional and community organizations. 

 

Dr. Odom-Wesley has engaged in a lifetime of service as a community volunteer, college  professor and successful small business owner who has called Arlington home for nearly 40 years.  She has earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees. She has a Doctoral degree in health information management. Her record of service includes leadership in national associations,  non-profit organizations and City Council-appointed boards and commissions. She has received distinguished service awards and special recognitions. Dr. Barbara Odom-Wesley is a published author, motivational speaker, wife, mother and grandmother.

"These experiences have prepared and positioned me for a higher level of service leadership.  To whom much is given, much is expected (Luke 12:48)."
